Hi all, question about selling a 1954-s 66fbl

Im pretty new when it comes to coin collecting, buying, and selling. I currently have a 1954-S PCGS MS 66 FBL Franklin half in brilliant condition, on the price guide says it is $3500, is that the normal price for a coin like this?
Also, being new to collecting i do not have a very high e-bay rating, so no one wants to make high money deals with me. Is there an alternative way to sell coins other than e-bay?

That's indeed a valuable coin. Can you post a photo? Alternatives to a regular EBAY auction could be: consign it to a Teletrade/Heritage/or other auction house. Or consign it thru a reputable coin dealer; You could sell it thru EBAY and stipulate an escrow transaction. You can offer it here on the forum. Maybe others will have suggestions.image

  • I dont doubt it! but this peice of metal missed the date by a year (1954-s) =( that would be nice though!
  • Hmmm, wasen't sure how to just post the picture, so i have it as a attachment! Oh, and that odd white hairline thing along franklins eye's is not on the coin, i wish i could make pictures look exactly like the coin im trying to show. Let me know what ya think!

Due to the fact that you do not have much feedback on feeBay and you do not have much interaction on the PCGS board, I would suggest your best bet for getting top dollar for the coin is to go through Teletrade.

If you are new to collecting, I hope you don't mind me asking where did you get the coin? I have an interest in the coin, are you in Pa maybe we could meet somewhere. Fred

Heritage auction archives, just for 2005, indicate a price range of $632.50 to $2,070.00.

Of the 8 that sold in 2005, only two show toning, the rest look white.

Please forgive my opinion, but I'm not crazy about that specimen. Looks like a lot of high point rub, and milky surfaces.
I'd pass, but I'm an old Franklin collector. If you know the series well, that coin just really isnt anything special.
I can't see the bell lines well. I have seen a ton of "S" mint Franklins that I would very strongly disagree with the FBL award. They just don't cut it, and that is a tough sell.
I hope you get a price that is fair for you and the buyer.
