at first glance i thought you said that in 2001 it went for "forty six dollars, oooooo" as in "ooooh, ahhhh" and i was issed i wasnt there to pay forty bucks for it. Then I realized it was 46K. Made the heart skip a beat.

No I really meant $46,000 not 'ooo".Just a slip of the hand.I think this coin went for about $45 back when it was first discovered.

If I recall correctly, some of these coins were part of a cigarette promotion with a penny in a pack.
But then, at my age, I have a hard time recalling what I did yesterday image so take it for what its worth!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

You're right.According to the story you would receive 2 cents in change when you put a quarter in the vending machine (cigarettes at that time $.23 per pack)They were wrapped in cellophane in front of the pack.

    I got it!! image

Hey if you want a 1955 DDO "CHEEP" you can get one here:

    Ebay Link

Please be avised though, the seller "Toadroller6" was one of PJD1966's "most satisfied customers" image (probably one in her network of thieves). image

    ---

Edited to add: Do the math: a $30K coin with only aproximately $25K return for the seller? I wouldn't bet on ever finding one but apparently a couple fish (suckers) have already bitten on this rotten worm!!

If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!! image

I believe that the same coin sold in the Winter Long Beach sale of 2001 for 59k,and was in a PCGS 65RD holder at the time.I could be wrong, but i am pretty sure its the same coin.image

Yes it is the same coin. We even showed a picture of it.

We discussed this in another thread as well.
