1981 topps hockey vending help !!

Well i got my 1981 topps vending box today. The box was packed good and as far as i could tell it was not tampered with. I have never opened a vending from this year so it was hard to say. Now i went through all 500+ cards from the box and just looked at the centering for now so i could put them to one side for grading when PSA has that 5.00 dollar special again. I got star cards and rookies and don't have a problem with corners but out of 500+ cards i was only able to pull 33 cards with decent centering? I know OPC had centering issues but topps?
The dealer has good feedback(over 200+) Has anybody else opened any 1981 topps vending and discovered this? I'd say 400+ cards had 30/70 centering or worse. I didn't buy this vending for star cards. I already have the most expensive cards graded PSA 10 for this set. I wanted it for the commons so i could get PSA 9's and 10's. I want to contact the seller but i figured i'd ask on the boards first. Like i said the box didn't appear to be tampered with and he is selling more on e-bay as you read this. Any help or thoughts?

Never bought a hockey vending box but have bought a few baseball ones.

I have had diamond cut,mis-cut,off-center and blank backed cards from vending.

And I really don't know what any seller can do as the only way they would know the condition of the cards would be to open them and look thru them prior to selling them.

The way I look at vending is you are buying a 500 count pack of cards and anything is possible.

But you can contact the seller as you never know.

I have seen plenty of vending from 1977 on up. Topps is not as bad as OPC but certainly bad enough. Your vending centering issues are not a suprise at all to me. If your majority is 70/30, that isnt so bad except for grading. Topps quality was always much less on hockey as it was in baseball, and that isnt saying much. Even baseball from that year is horrifying.

Yeah 1981 was one of the worst years for Topps centering.. Collect a set that has 50/50 centering or even close to 50/50 from that year and you'll truely have something rare.

    ezyshooter--

I just recently picked up a nice vending run of 81 Topps Hockey. Almost all commons. Perhaps I can help you on your set. Send me a PM if interested.
  • I know this isn't a fav set with most people but i thought it would be cool to have the regular, east and west completely graded. I think i'm at about 30 percent complete. Mostly 10's but some 9's in there as well. The second highest set hasn't moved in a long time. He has some cards i need and doesn't want to sell at this time image He would like to continue building the set but i guess the funds just ain't there. Gee his priority's are all wrong !! LOL

Contact David from dmdclassics.com His e-mail is david@dmdclassics.com He's got a lot of 80's stuff which isnt listed on their website. He's very precise with the gradeing of his cards. If you give him a list of the cards you need and tell him you only want NearMint-Mint to MINT cards he'll pick out just that for you.

    Good Luck!
