    In Flanders Fields

    In Flanders fields the poppies blow
    Between the crosses, row on row,
    That mark our place; and in the sky
    The larks, still bravely singing, fly
    Scarce heard amid the guns below.

    We are the dead. Short days ago
    We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
    Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

    Take up our quarrel with the foe;
    To you from failing hands we throw
    The torch; be yours to hold it high.
    If ye break faith with us who die
    We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    Another great medal of course. The list of superlatives has been exhausted prior to this but once again "great"! image

    The "wall of steel" is reminiscent of the Roman shield wall; the thorns obviously connote barbwire. One of the rocks in the middle of the pile seems to be shaped like a skull -- is it?

  • Another Great Medal. the more I look at these the more I am intrigued with the way Goetz uses symbolism and the subtle irony he portrays in each peice.

    Thanks again for the great threads, Cache. This obverse is one of the better ones I've seen in the series.
