Every time my grades post, I'm convinced it's whatever series happens to be on my submission.

My last attempt with regrades was buffalo nickels. None of them upgraded, so I'll have to go with buffalo nickels for now. image

I would say Peace Dollars for both PCGS and NGC.
  • I would venture to guess that nay coin you submit that looks like a 65 or better will be graded tight. It seems that the higher priced coins will be scrutinized more than those below a 64. the dollar value - other than the 'rare in any grade' coin is not that important. take a 83 or 84 s- it jumps dramatically from an AU to MS and they are going to look at that a little longer than 7 seconds.

Depends. On how badly the graders are suffering

    from constipation and lakanuki.

Has to be Lincoln Wheat and Memorials from before 1980. It has been this way for some time now.

Yep...Memorial Lincolns in MS68 and MS69, PCGS is harsh on those.

It seems that to a man, whatever each collector collects is the toughest series. MorganHunter2....while what you say may very well be true more now than ever, I DID manage to get two PCGS 63 1932-D Washington Quarters to upgrade to PCGS 64.

That was really nice of PCGS.image

We have so far Buffalo nickels, Memorial Lincolns and Peace dollars.

    Any other opinions?

I would guess early Lincoln cents.
Questionable color must cause many to be bagged.

  • I think most of you will disagree, but I think it's the modern, MS, Roosevelt dime.

    Paul,

Interesting question, but I need to know when you ask the tightest, compared to who. Compared to the other grading service, compared to my personal opinion, or what?

Your direct question aside, I believe it has more to do with the individual grader, than the service itself. I can't see how all the graders can grade all series consistently between themselves. Some will be tougher than others on any given series. After all, in most cases we are talking about a single point and in this business that is close enough. Lets face it, if the coin has the upgrade potential and the dollars are worth it, the coin will be submitted over and over again until it is finally graded by the grader who is the most lenient in the series.

It a crap shoot as to who, not what company, grades your coin.

Compared to the grading of all the other different US coin series is what I mean.image To me all the different coin series(designs) have a certain comparable "look" in PO01 to MS70.....no matter what the series. PCGS and NGC are alot harder on certain coin series (designs) than other series.

Yep, I agree on the Lincoln memorials before 1981, and wheats in the 40's and 50's. Even with the numbers being submitted all these years, there are some pops of less than 10 in 67, like the 69s 100proof1957 was asking about earlier, 8 in 67.

Well if you based it on the whiners on this forum it would be Modern proofs which I don't agree with. I believe the Morgans and Peace dollar standards are very cut and dry and very little room exists for variance less fantastic eye appealing toning of course. Chris

Both PCGS and NGC currently want a lot more than they used to to make a MS67 roosie.
