1989 Fleer Complete Sets - What to Do?

I foolishly bought 12 1989 Fleer BB complete sets at K-mart back in '89 for about $20 a piece. They've been stored away all this time. What would you do from the following?

A. Hold them and hope that Griffey, Jr. miraculously heals, bulks up, and gets 800 hr's someday.
B. Sell them on ebay and net $7 or $8 a piece if I'm lucky.
C. Break open the boxes and submit to PSA hoping for 10s.
D. Sell them at a garage sale. (I did get rid of my 2 1988 Donruss Baseball's Best at $5 a clip at our last garage sale.)
E. Other ________.

Thanks!

Only way to get your money back is to Submitt and get low pop 10's.

if you want to build up some feedback, then dump them on Ebay.

Depending how much you handled the sets, you might have a shot at some PSA 10's but then again, maybe a corner or two got dinged from moving the sets around.

I don't think Griffey Jr's will shoot up that much, unless he's the All Time HR leader, which probably won't happen. All his RC's are during the overproduced era, so they arent' really rare.

    So I guess I say
    Option B
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

You're not going to get much for them graded or ungraded, so you might as well just hold on to them. Stick them in the closet for another 20 years and forget about them. Or, they make good presents for kids. The best you're going to do on any one card getting a Gem Mint 10 is $40, and it's a tough set condition-wise, so you probably don't have many 10s in there. Worth a look, but I would just stash them away.

  • They will never be worth anything so why waste the space? open half and see what you got, then burn em up. If the others don't sell at a yard sale, burn them too. Or give them to a local hospital pediatric ward and take a tax write off.

Just because it goes down doesn't mean it will EVER come back up.

Crack them open, see what Griffey Jr's or Randy Johnson cards are worth grading....then make them into team sets and sell the team sets by lot on ebay. Give the remaining Expos and Mariners to some kids.
  • Seriously now guys... How much would any of you pay for a 89 fleer team set?! Would you even pay 1 cent plus shipping? I don't think so. If its not worth the shipping cost, then its not worth ebay fees, your time, and the hassle for the profit margin of MAYBE a small cup of coffee.

think about it, what is your time worth?

The only real value is pulling 10's for player collectors...and that is even in jeopardy as 4SC and DSL have unloaded bunches of 10s from this set recently.

Could always donate the sets and take the tax write off (if you itemize your tax returns).

Let's say you get 1/2 of the cards back as 10s....you'll be lucky to break even on the whole deal.
