Are the current Brit 2 pence coins the same size as the old half pennies?

I ask because I've always wanted to put together a British monarchy type set. Half pennies seem pretty good because they're relatively large. Plus there's nothing like a nice red copper.

They're close. A 2p fits better in a 26 mm Airtite while the old halfpenny would rattle around in it a bit. About ½mm separates them in diameter.
