Why is the 2001-S PCGS PR69DC Sac dollar so expensive?

According to my Jan 2005 PCGS pop report, there have been 8235 graded in PR69DC so far. They're sellling on EBAY regularly @ $75 and higher. (I need one, too)image

  • I've wondered that too -- if you look at prices of 2001 proof coins, it's really only the Sac that's at a high price. Why isn't the dime or the half with the same mintage worth even half the price?

this is a really good question

Yeah I noticed this too. I was going to break up my clad proof set to sell the sac and keep the kennedy but it is just better for my to buy the kennedy because it is so cheap rather than busting up a set. For you it is best to buy the proof set and bust it up/

It's the mintage Qty. Less costs more according to my local dealer contacts.

well according to the redbook the mintages are as follows:

    2000-S 3,082,483
    2001-S 2,294,043
    2002-S 2,277,720

according to that logic the 2002 should be more

Sorry don't have 2003 or 2004 mintage. Perhaps someone does

hopefully the 2004 will have an even smaller mintage. Two bad I sold my other two sets. I have 1 left to keep

Sac dollar mintages. They came in both the silver abd clad sets.

    2001 3,100,680
    2002 3,211,995
    2000 4,024,200

There still seems to be a big disparity in price from the 2001 and 2002. I also think the 2004 will be the lowest mintage of Sacs to date.

  • I've seen them sell of flea bay for $85 and one was just offered with a starting price of $100 but it received no bids. The 2001 sac has been double the price of the others for a long time now, and it looks like the price is just going up.

Only thing I can think of is simple supply and demand
