  • The auction catalogue was really good. For those of us who will probably never be able to afford coins like these the pics were nice and the whole catalogue was well done!

Those were hammer prices listed above. It seems that a few of the key coins in nice condition brought exceptional prices. But flipping through the seated 10C to 50C prices I was surprised that the majority of the coins brought very reasonable prices. In the case of the type coins, very reasonable prices imo.

The 1872-s quarter in MS66 realized a 55K hammer which was very strong imo. My favorite date, the 1867-s quarter in MS64 (ex-Eliasberg at $4K!) realized a whopping 15.5K hammer. An old friend, the 1853NA 25c in MS67 realized $11,213. I could have purchased that at the 2003 FUN show for $13K or so and decided to pass because of some carbon spotting and a fresh dipping. Good decision as it brought less than what I had offered for it back then. The 1872 25c I also believe was a former coin I owned (NGC63). If the same coin, it was one I found in a raw box of coins banging around for $500. I pulled out the 1872 and sold the rest of the box for $500. Once graded I sold it for $1200 back in 1988-89. It brought around $1800 at Richmond.

The AU 1860-s 25c also went for spirited money at around $30,000.

Agreed. Many type coins (common dates) were around grey sheet bid before juice.
