How is ICG at grading world coins?

I have submitted many World coins to ICG for grading. I say they are on par with NGC and PCGS. I have sent about 10 coins cut from ICCS holders and about 60% of them came back the same grade or lower.

ICG is the only game in town for Ancient coins.

Don's had better experience than I. I've picked up two Canadian coins in ICG slabs as part of a bulk lot. The 1858 10c was graded VF25 wouldn't cross at VF20 (imho its F12), 1909 1c was graded 64RB crossed at 63 BN.

I've never submitted to them, so its possible I got 2 of their misses in the lot.

I have one coin in an ICG holder and I like it... I even bought it from one of our esteemed darksiders who needs no introduction.

The one area ICG is not as accurate is in Canadian Large Cents. I can see why Gene's coin crossed liked it did. ICG is usually one point high on the MS Large Cents.

Gene, cross to what service and was it a crackout or 'in holder'?

    Don,

Crossed to PCGS in holder - dummy me said cross at any grade on form. I sent in 8 (2 ICG, 3 ICCS, 2 NGC, and 1 ANACS) greyside coins to cross to PCGS 2 years ago and got hammered. Only the ANACS crossed at grade all the others were one step lower.

Now I crack them out 1st - much better results, too. Sent in 6 more this past summer, the 3 NGC came back same grade, the 3 ANACS came back higher!

Must be something about the other guys plastic image

ANACS is tougher on World coins than most collectors think...

Regarding ICG, I really like them, I like their holder and I like their grades. I have yet to buy a Greek coin in an ICG slab, but here's a nice ICG MS66RB 1/4 kopeck.

Oh, I didn't take it this way, I was really waiting for you to enlighten me. Besides, as everybody knows by now, these are Darkhorse's excellent photos, I don't see that many ebay sellers with this kind of quality photos.

    Nice "greenie", Dimitri.

The older ICG slabs will likely have a few treasures inside. I bought an 1883 Shield nickel (early holder - 1st year of business for ICG) imageimage, I know, it ain't DARK.

But, ICG had it graded as MS65......nice coin except it ain't MS, it's PF, and it crossed to NGC as PF66....image BTW, the submission was RAW, and not in the plastique.

I agree with that 100% especially those more recently graded. I have a few that I belive are significantly undergraded and they are very tough on the cleaned designation.

A good insight and the same as my experience. The only downside being if it crosses significantly lower you are left out in the cold. image

I made a rather clumsy attempt of commenting that the picture of the 1/4 Kopek is small compared to the large pics that people usually post on this forum. I guess I have been spoiled.image
