Question on BLPratt Quarter Eagles

I saw a 1911-D example of this coin today graded AU55 I think by NGC, and when I looked at the coin head on, under magnification, I literally couldn't see the mint mark. When I asked the dealer about it - He took the coin to a much brighter light and tilted the coin - which revealed, the faintest of faint D mintmark I've ever seen. So the question is - when a mint mark is that light - and Im talking like PO-1 light - does that deminish the value on such coins?

I think the mintmarks on those coins are very difficult to see, which I believe is a result of the design. I had a 1913-S $5 in AU-55 which I subsequently sold and it took great effort to be able to see the S mintmark.

I believe there is both strong and weak MM varieties for the 11-D quarter eagle,
the strong MM being more valuable.

Edit to add: Anacs attributes some 11-D quarter eagles as "weak D".

I am not a big fan of weak MMs. When I pay the premium to have a branch mint coin, I like my MM to be bold. DW says that in the Dahlonega and Charlotte series, as a rule of thumb, weak MM coins sell for about half what the standard price would be.
