is this a die break, polish or what?

found this on a 1879 P. not much else going on with this coin but can't decide what this is or what would have caused itimageimage

    Looks similar in width to the "wormeye" error......as rounded as it is....die gouge, breaks are usually not rounded when changing directions.

    Just looks like a simple strike-thru to me. Could be a small thread, wire, even a piece of hair. It is definitely depressed into the coin.

    It looks raised to me and I've seen similar markings on other Morgan dollars.

    Your right, I messed up and forgot that this was on a morgan dollar. The light patterns showed the worm was the opposite of the lettering and the enlarged photo made the letters appear to be in relief.
