I Got "Whizzed" Second Thought

Thanks for the boards respond to my question regarding my 2 whizzed lincoln pennies that I purchased on E-Bay. At first I agreed to sell these pennies on E-Bay as "Clean/Whizzed". But after reading the comments on this board I am going to keep these pennies for the reason of some E-Bayer will re-selling them as originals.

As I mainly collect Liberty Nickels and review Liberty Nickels on E-Bay, I find that a majority of raw Liberty's on E-Bay are over graded. Just look at any raw 1885, 1886 being sold on E-Bay as VG-10, F-15 or VF-20 most of these will be stated and over graded by the seller.

Maybe these pennies will be helpful in leveling my desk? Thanks to all

Excellent decision ! I know you will be out the money that was spent for them but in the future if you should get another coin that looks like these you should have no doubt about returning the coin as fast as possible. Again a excellent decision that will keep these off the market and not stick another collector with these in the future.

  • I thought "whizzed" meant cleaned. What does it mean? How does it get done? ~lurking and learning~ Thanks

  • This is from the NGC guide for non-gradable coins:

A WHIZZED coin is one whose surfaces have been
treated with a rapidly rotating wire wheel in order to make
the coin appear to be brilliant uncirculated.

Whizzing is basically a method of "recreating" luster rather than cleaning.
