Ah. I collected coins along with cards when I was young. All junk by today's grading standards. But I loved poring through the coin magazines. Very fond memories of re-reading those well-worn pages while listening to Airplane's "While Bathing at Baxter's."
<< <i>[I have very fond memories while listening to "Baxter's" as well, but they had more to do with melting walls.... >>
I was too young to see melting walls, but trying to understand Grace Slick's stoned free-association in "Two Heads" made my 12-year-old brain melt. I was Almost Uncirculated, myself, at that stage.
You want two heads on your body And you've got two mirrors in your hand Priests are made of brick with gold crosses on a stick And your nose is too small for this land Inside your head is your town Inside your room your jail Inside your mouth the elephants trunk and booze The only key to your bail
Want two heads on your body And you've got two mirrors in your hand
Two heads can be put together And you can fill both your feet with sand No one will know you've gutted your mind But what will you do with your bloody hands? Your lions are fighting with chairs Your arms are incredibly fat; Your women are tired of dying alive If you've had any women at that
Wearing your comb like an axe in your head Listening for signs of life; Children are sucking on stone and lead And chasing their hoops with a knife; New breasts and jewels for the girl Keep them polished and shining; Put a lock on her belly at night, sweet life For no child of mine
Want two heads on your body And you've got two mirrors in your hand
Deja vu all over again. I happened to skip past Wheel of Fortune (?) last night; the game that's like hangman, with letters chosen and you have to figure out what the slogan is? Anyway, the moment I hit that channel, this guy was saying NO MAN IS AN ISLAND very slowly like on the record, and it was the correct answer. Without missing a beat, the slick host (don't know his name, I don't watch this stuff) grinned and said "I think you're more of a peninsula" and they smiled very knowingly at each other.
Peace brother, the underground lives....we just look differently.
