Are traveling lot viewings a new idea or has it been done in the past?

I noticed that for the Eliasberg collection, the auction lots were able to be viewed at the New York International show a few months ago, and they are also available for viewing in Baltimore. For Heritage's Palm Beach show, the auciton lots are also able to be viewed in Baltimore. Is this common to have the auction lots available in different places for viewing? I think it is probably a good idea to have the coins in as many places as possible for people to view, rather than just at the show they are being auctioned at. Is this something new or has it been done in the past?
