Baseball guys.. (that would be all of you I suppose)

For the 1910 Cobb card.. There's one with a bat on his shoulder and one with it off his shoulder.. Which one is in more demand/worth more and why? If one is worth more than the other is it just because of collector preference or because that one is worth more?

Just curious..

  • It's my understanding that the two variations with the bat on/off the shoulder are about the same value. It is difficult to determine the demand because ALL T206 Cobb cards are highly sought after. The most valuable of the variations (due mainly in part to scarcity) is the Green background portrait. Aside from the front, the rarer backs also add a premium (with the Ty Cobb back being the rarest and most valuable). BTW, the Ty Cobb back has only been seen with the red portrait front. image

I would just say the variation that looks shiny-new and comes with the seller's disclaimer: "I don't know if this is real or not ..." is probably worth less.

SCD has bat off shoulder at $660 for VG, bat on shoulder $550 for VG. I don't know why. Those are 1909-1911 Tobacco T-206 cards. There's a couple of different Cobb portrait T-206 cards. There's also a couple of Cobb caramel cards from the same era, but I don't think there's a bat/on bat/off variation.
