It's relatively easy to get a great photograph of raw coins, which is what most of Stacks auctions contain. Much harder when the coin is in a holder.

Their pictures capture the detail very well, but the luster is subdued.

The auction survey done here a week or so ago was telling.

Not many people here seem to know Stacks and that's a shame.

Stack's has quite a nice gold sale going on in 10 days. Looks like quite a few "fresh" and interesting coins. I wish I lived closer to NY--okay, I won't take it that far.

I don't know much about the gold portion of that sale, but you have to honor any sale that features 3 1796 (both die varieties and both die states of the 101 marriage) and a 1797 half. Of course, since all 4 coins are raw they are worthless and nobody will pay any attention to them

Well cmon now Robert, it IS actually a great city to spend a weekend in.

By day 3 though it becomes "driver, take me to the airport"!
