Animal coins

I'm wondering what all animal coins are out there. I really like stuff like the Chinese Pandas, Australian Lunars, and some of the Canadian coins that have animals on them.

What other countries have nice proofs with animals depicted on them?

Some that comes to mind are (they change designs every year):

    Australia gold kangaroos
    Australia silver kookaburras
    Australia platinum koalas

Isle of Man cats (silver and gold)
Gibraltar dogs (discontinued silver and gold)
    trozau (troy ounce gold)

Don't forget the Australian Palladium Emu!

There's also the Chinese lunar series...round, flower/plum/scalloped shaped, fan-shaped--all in both silver and gold.

Plus the platinum and palladium pandas (say that three times fast).

There are also the Chinese unicorns as well (silver, gold, bi-metallic, maybe platinum--I can't remember).

The 2001 Britannia has a lion, and the 1997 has horses (my favorite).

    Sovereigns have the Horse.

The American Eagle has, well, an eagle.

There are some Bosnian Horses out there (silver, gold, and base metal).

There's also the absolutely fabulous Macedonia Stork and the equally fabulous Belize Stork (both in gold, a color that suits all Storks well).

The South African Natura series have some gorgeous animals.

    The Red Deer of Ireland.

Krause would be a great place to look because there are also all the other really cool, regular issue coins out there too--I'm trying to chase down a 'cat' from Uruguay these days. Truly a plethora of animal coins. (I love using the word plethora in a sentence!).

  • And in the "Americas" Peru has Llama's.
Chile has Condors (pretty cool looking).
    Dominica has Parrots.
    The Falklands have PENGUINS.
Brazil has the manned wolf, jaguars and parrots as well.
Argentina has a pretty cool looking Giant Armadillo (silver 25 peso).
Belize has BIRDS - a very nice collection of them in various metals.

Of course Africa has all sorts of critter coins,
    as does the Cook Islands.

The list goes on and on. WORLD COINS highly recommended. My copy is getting worn down pretty quickly, you can buy copies through AMAZON.

Anything of the modern Irish coinage (pre-Euro 1928-2000) has nice animals on it. After that it stinks
