Bidding question: Will Auction Houses let you ...

Say you are interested in 2 lots but only have enough cash for one of them. You will be placing an absentee bid but with one stipluation: DO NOT bid on the second lot if I win the first lot. Will they do this?

Bill, some auction houses WILL allow you to do that. It's often referred to as an "either/or" bid.
  • B&M currently has a max expenditure option. When QDB owned the house, you could choose to end your bidding on other similar lots if you had already won one.

I'll send Dix Noonan and email and see what they say.

    Bill,

I know the ANR Eliasberg gold sale has a provision, where you can do that for up to 5 coins in a group. But they do state that because the bidding goes so fast, they're not responsible if they mess up in placing the bid. Can't blame them.

Another option, if you're bidding on just two items, is to have a max spending limit of your first bid, or a little over--if you win that lot, your next bid won't be placed.
