  • I picked up this 53 Matthews along with about 40 1952 bowmans in what looks like 7's up to 9's.
I thought there were some pretty good deals compared to other shows of late.

    T206's are always being bought.

  • Nice pickup. Beautiful card. I got a 1961 Topps Spahn PSA 9, last card in the set.
I was disappointed that PSA was not grading on site. GAI was and their booth was swamped all day today.
  • I went to the other "major" show this week, the Tri-Star show in Phoenix. It was awful. I spent more on admission and parking ($15) than cards ($4). There was some vintage there, mostly overpriced raw stuff. When I did see vintage graded cards, top dollar seemingly was always being asked. Since I'm not interested in paying $100 to $500 for new card boxes from the past few years and the recent spate of instant collectible memorabilia cards leaves me less than excited, the rest of the show was a shut out.
  • There was a pretty decent-sized crowd when I was there Saturday morning. Left before Roger Craig autograph time.

Picked up this from Kurtz Kardz.

Went to the Fort on Friday, and as usual had a good time. Its always good to go to a quality show and meet dealers & collectors 1 on 1.
eBay and the internet are great, but something about a show where you can see the cards and memorabilia up close & personal makes it worthwhile....jay

I also went to the TriStar Show in Phoenix with similar experience. I spent $10 on admission and found nothing worthwhile. The few vintage raw cards were very over priced and the men behind the table were not interested in price negotiations.

Collecting Tony Perez PSA and Rookie Baseball PSA

  • I was there Friday as well Picked up 3 more 34 Batter-Up high numbers I need for my set and picked a complete set of 1888 R&S artistic series cards (10) here ia scan of 4 of them...

How far in advance do you have to sign up to be a dealer at a Fort Washington show.
Unlike a lot of you guys, I haven't sold cards at a show in a LONG time.

1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards

Jeff--Where's that funky bright colored background paper---I miss it! image

I was there Saturday and scooped a pair of 1967 cellos (GAI 9). One will be opened at work this week, the other I think I will do at Ft. Wash in April/May. Good to touch base with the solid professional hobbyists I hadn't since last August. Sorry I missed Neal and Jay, but security told me they kept their eye on him Friday in my absence. image

Authenticated a batch of SS/Sweet Spot Mantle baseballs, 2 Bill Dickeys, a Yogi Berra, and Feller and Whitey Ford 8X10s; Sent 3 others for ball grading, and proudly submitted the 2004 Red Sox playoff tickets for authentication (I will have the World Series tickets authenticated & graded in April/May); submitted 600 cards (Special 72-90).

I meant to reply to this earlier, but .......I got distracted and forgot....

I went to the Houston Tri-Star show in January and it was the worst Tri-Star show ever for me (and I didn't think it could get worse after last year). I got there on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm and left at 6:15 pm. It used to take all of Friday and part of Saturday to cover the show. This time the raw stuff was either lousy or super expensive (in some cases both super expensive and lousy quality). Out of the 6 vintage dealers there, 4 now sell raw cards at or near SMR prices ($8-$20 for low series NM-Mint commons from the late '60s - ridiculous!). The other two vintage dealers had reasonable prices but you have to look through several hundred cards to find one decent one. Ughh! There wasn't very much graded vintage stuff either. It's really sad. It looked more like a massive garage sale rather than a regional card show.

Yup, you could have said the same thing about the Phoenix show. It's now to the point where the sometimes monthly local show in town actually brings out as much if not more material/dealers than the Tri-Star show. And those local shows aren't particulary impressive. Card shows aren't what they used to be, that's for sure!image

FWIW, I couldn't resist and broke both cellos open. Have about 13 that should MINT (including Maris) and another 6 that should NM-MT (including Barber). 5 cards were centered PSA 7 or worse.

Depending on the grades, I may try to find another pack or two at Ft. Wash in April/May...

  • Eric - Nice job on the Maris. If it 9's that should make the break.
Hope all is well your way.
