Exorbitant shipping charge?

Do any of you deal with eBay seller zorbaaz? I am working on finishing my 1976 Topps set and like to just buy random lots of cards cheap. I look for cards I need and then upgrade other from my set that I pick up in better condition. In bidding on several lots tonight I hit this auction ...

181 card 1976 Topps lot

and the seller is looking for $13.50 to ship 181 commons. I usually can pick up lots of commons for a dime a piece after figuring in shipping. Kind of steep don't you think?

I realize the photos shows a few stars - Yaz, Carew, Fingers and Carlton.

Seller clearly states his cost for shipping, handling and insurance.
If it's too steep for you, don't bid.

sounds too high. Maybe it's a typo? Did you email the seller? He's a powerseller, some of those guys use the turboliser or something else and don't change the S/H cause they arent' paying attention.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

MarkLee, if you think that shipping is so bad you might just keel over if you saw my auction of 68 1978 Topps cards that I am looking almost .50 a pc for image And they are ALL commons image Of course they are MINT and pack fresh with PSA 9 centering on most of them

In reality, I think I may start a MINT raw 78 set to go along with my graded set. I have many sweet cards lying around that I won't get graded because my graded set has a great example already and no way in hell I am giving these away for a dime a piece image. Unless someone from these boards who has helped me before needs help!

  • I wondered about a possible typo and did try to contact him. I just was wondering if anyone else had dealt with him as he is a power seller with a fine feedback rating. I understand the way the whole auction thing works and know how to bid accordingly. Thanks for the advice.

Is it possible that he is putting each of the 181 cards in a rigid toploader? That would add a bit of weight to the package........

  • i am selling a 54 card lot of 59 Fleers...all are shipped in toploaders, well packaged, via prioity mail with insuranc and sig confirmation. s/h $12. i would rather over package and prove they were delivered than have the buyer claim they never got there or were damaged.

If he's a volume dealer, he may be upping the shipping costs to offset ebay selling fees. Over a period of time it could save him some coin, but potential buyers may be turned off by what they see as a rip-off in S/H costs.

As I am selling a few really big lots right now as well, I have to agree with ranger63 on this one
  • I don't find it unusual that he'd charge that for shipping. I recently paid $5 to have a 1.00 card shipped in a .35 envelope. Plus it took two weeks to get to me... was in worse condition than described and he hasn't left postive feedback... I should have known better considering his feedback was poor and he sounded like a 14 year old kid... hey, it's a risk...

In the case of your 1976 lot... it may only cost him $3-$6 to ship it... but he clearly states $13.50... and he asks that same fee on two other similar lots...
You'll just have to factor into your bid...

I understand your frustration... but like morrell man stated... don't bid if you don't like it. I pass up on stuff for similar reasons all the time...
