Dark bronze, yes. Of course, the macro lighting, and editing the photo so I can upload it, also takes its toll on the actual appearence.

There are a variety of such medals by Raymond Delamarre and others for the various French shipping lines, chiefly for ocean liners. Perhaps the most well-known is Jean Vernon's "Liberté".
