1797 Error?

Hello to all,
This is my first post aswell as my first question for all you coin nuts out there "myself included"....
Well I emailed Pgcs about a 1797 half cent i found to be alittle bit strange....
I did get an emai back and the person said it does give "hints " of a double strike but is also Dmged,...
I will try to put as many good pics up as I can,But after everyones reply "i know theres gonna be a ton of them",I would like to know what I should do next involving grading and even who's the best for appraisal...
Thanks,
Bootleg

  • Thx for the reply,Im sure alot will reply, and also I will take new pic's since lighting was bad and I want all to see the REV.

The lines/ridge looking things have depth to them so they are not cut into "like someone usin a axe to cut in half etc etc ".these are comming out of the coin....

the rev has the almosr same thing

to bad this is one of the good pics of the rev.,......

    Welcome. Nice first post.

PCGS and NGC will not grade and encapsule damaged coins.

ANACS will authenticate and grade the coin, even if damaged. $20 plus shipping both ways. 2 weeks door to door unless you
live in Ohio, and you can drive it over image
  • Thanks for the info,Ill defintly keep that company in mind!...
But I dont see what would be Dmged on the coin if it is a minting error,......
The pictures could be deciving, and not show the Rev's error's,.
Also when the coin is flipped on the Obv,it looks like theres somthing under "Liberty" maybe another head?........

That's an interesting piece. I dunno if the pattern there is damage or mintmade- I suppose it could be a strange strikethrough of some sort- maybe there was a ribbon or something across the die? image

Damaged or error, that is a neat-lookin' coin. I can't recall the last time I saw a Lib Cap half cent in person. I've never owned one.

Edit: I looked at your other pics and do think it is damaged.

But I still think it's cool. image

Your 1805 is a C-4 the large 5 with stems. The 1797 is damaged, I don't know it's variety right off and could use better pictures.
  • AHHH,thx for the info on the 1805!.....that was a stumper for me,.......

the 1797 will have better pics by tommarow!!.......
I will take shots of every angle......
