Some Early Mexican Coins -- Should I have these slabbed, or keep raw? (Large Pics attached)

I recently picked up a few early Mexican coins. I may keep or sell them, have not decided yet. If I were to sell them, should I get them slabbed by NGC or PCGS, or do these tend to be kept raw? I don't collect darkside (except for a few greyside double dollar sets) so I am not familiar with market preferences on these coins.

Also, the 8 Reale coin has a green spot on the reverse -- should I try to dip it off with Acetone, send it to NCS, or is it even worth it? (looks like it may have been cleaned and re-toned, but there are not harsh hairlines or scrub marks).

Suggestions are welcome!! Thanks! image

They all appear to be sea-salvaged, which might affect whether they can be slabbed.

Cool stuff. I would see no pressing need to have them slabbed. I have a cute little 1747 half-escudo goin' into my antique mall booth, which I plan to keep raw. (It's only a VG-ish coin).

The 2 and 8 reales likely wouldn't be slabbed due to "Environmental Damage" as they do look like salvage coins as newsman pointed out. The gold is well enough circulated that slabbing it would probably be a waste of money. They are pleasing coins overall.

I do not think slabbing will produce anything really helpful. I think these are better off raw

  • I'd keep them raw. If sea salvaged they would only benifit from slabbing if the wreck was a well recognized and someone wanted it for its "historical" pedigree. Because of the damage to them you may not be able to get them slabbed as others have stated.
