New and Improved Images -- Comments and Suggestions Welcome - Large Images Attached

Attached below are images of my 78-CC Morgan and a couple of end roll toners.

These appear to be better than my previous efforts. Per Eric's suggestion, I used the timed shutter release. I also used three lights and placed the coin in the "intersection" per the diagram shown in the following thread: Link

The images still do not have that "natural" look captured in images from mgood3, Eric, and Russ. It appears the sharpness and depth can be improved upon. Any suggestions are welcome. I am using a Nikon Coolpix 5200.

Coinhusker1, I think your photos look great. So do the coins.

Question: Did you have to change your white balance settings from shooting PCGS slabs when you had to photo an NGC slab ? This gave me a real problem and never did get close shooting the NGCs. Shiny silver surounded with white seemed to be the problem. image

Those images look fantastic to me for a mid range Nikon consumer camera, and are a great improvement.

Wayne, there is a very easy way to compensate for the difference between PCGS and NGC slabs. In your camera manual, look up the white balance setting, and follow the instructions for using the white balance preset, using a regular piece of printing paper. Keep the piece of paper in place when shooting your coins, and that will take care of the problem.
  • WOW !!!!!! Those are fantastic pics !! imageimage

Thanks for the link to the other thread. I missed that diagramed info. It's now saved to my "Picture Setups" folder for future referrence image

Thanks Eric, I'll try that next time. I had done the preset white balance thing but didn't leave the white paper when shooting the coin. Went back to the grey desktop background.

  • Hey! That was my diagram! LOL I am thrilled that it worked for you! Your pictures look great! All I can say is that some, not all, need just a smidge more contrast and then you will be set.

    Good job! image
