  • According to sellers central on Ebay the law was misstated and most sellers will not need a liscense in Ohio, it did create some panic initially

    Interesting...
I wonder how long ebay will be powerful enough to keep the Feds out of the "biggest garage sale on the planet" and require that everyone's account be supplied with a 1099 or something at the end of each year?

The tax implication must be staggering?

  • I saw this story on the local news last night and had a flash of panic but it looks as if they are rewriting the law. Some other interesting facts I remember are:

    $400 yearly license fee
    1 year apprenticeship????
    Bonded for $50,000
and there were a couple of other requirements but I can't think of them since I was in a midst of a panic attackimage

I agree it's only a matter of time before the goverment will start collecting a piece of the pie.

eventually Big brother is going to find a way to tax Ebay. A lot of people are making their living off Ebay, and I assume are avoiding a lot of local, state and federal taxes by doing so. Guess it all depends on what your personal thoughts are about taxation.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Big Brother already has a way to tax ebay. It's called income tax. It is illegal to place a Federal tax on interstate commerce, which is what most ebay traffic is, I imagine. But the companies and individuals that sell on ebay are required to report the income. They may come up with a way to enforce that more strictly, though.
