Yes, you need to respond back with something like:

"Holy $hit! You mean the U.S. Mint forgot to put a date on them?!! That's a MAJOR rarity!"

or

"If there's no date, it means that the Mint couldn't decide what year they wanted to release the coin for circulation."

or

"Your nickel does have a date on it. It's behind the buffalo. If you carefully remove the buffalo from your coin with a Dremel Powertool or an oxyacetylene torch, you will see what the date is."
