Sorry for screaming. I'm mad (and yes, the final answer will be, "it's only a coin")
Anyway, I'm sure plenty of you know that I've been looking for a totally original flowing hair half dollar, in a lower circulated grade. You probably also know that those are very, very few and far between, especially in my price range. Well, earlier this week, I found on on eBay that fit the bill... this ANACS VG10, which ended tonight.
So why do I hate Amtrak? My dad came up from Baltimore (where we're moving) to spend the weekend, and took Amtrak instead of driving. He was scheduled in at 7:10, so I left home at around 6:20 to get to the station to pick him up. The train was delayed... then delayed, and delayed some more. Eventually, I remembered this auction, and called my mom to ask her to check on it... it ended an hour and four minutes from when I called. More delays. I told her I'd call her back.
Anyway, my dad's train got in at around 8:45... yeah, a bit delayed. With 10 minutes left in the auction, I had my dad call my mom, and tell her to place my bid, since she was too busy (and not trained ) to snipe. She did. Looking at the person who eventually won, I would have won, and not just that, but below my max, if I were home to snipe (or if I set auctionsniper, knowing I'd be out so long). I got home a few minutes after the auction ended. It's been two months at least since I last saw one that really fit my bill The hunt continues, and I hate Amtrak.

From the eyes that have been looking at major shows, scratch the word "many" from that sentence...
<< <i>Hey I hear ya. But it's just a coin. Shoulda' used AuctionSniper. When you absolutely have to get it bought tonight.... >>
I was also supposed to be home before 8:00pm... that would have been over and hour and a quarter of computer time before it ended.

Huh? Two whole months? I've seen some of the coins I wanted only once in the last three years.
Either way, sorry about that. I thought you used an automated sniping app?

I agree, if you absolutely, positively want to submit a bid on the coin, use Auctionsniper or Phantombidder. Being at you computer is no guarantee the bid will get in either. Many times slow internet traffic has prevented me from executing a manual snipe (and I have broadband)!!
Good Luck next time.
<< <i>There is no way to tell how much the winning bidder bid. >>
He bid twice at the end... the first time, he became second to my mom's bid... then he bid again to take the lead. I snipe with only a few seconds left, and would have bid after his first bid, giving him no time to place that second bid. On that logic, I would have won.
<< <i>you should have gone for the one I had at parsnip few month ago...that was a grand one >>
And wasn't it some $1500 plus?

I had auctionsniper miss one for me, as well. I've never been out-timed on a manual snipe from a cable modem.
Why didn't you place a bid with your max?

ps: what with major Congressional pressures to either privatize or cut services, it's just gonna get worse! Grrrr....

I believe his intention was to snipe to get max value. Sux when life gets in the way sometimes...

Yup... that max, if placed as a typical snipe, would have won with a few dollars of cushoning...
<< <i>There there, Jeremy. It's just a coin.
This is JUST a coin
This is a piece of history and something worth getting mad about losing...
