Great Pull...

So a couple of years back i bought 6 unopened packs of 86-87 Fleer Basketball at a card show thinking i was making a good investment. I opened 2 when i got them and pulled a Jordan Sticker and got it graded 8. But anyways i opened another pack last week and i pulled a Jordan RC in MINT condition so i sent it in to PSA and got the grade back a couple days ago. Here we go: NO GRADE EVID of TRIMMING. I can't believe it I pulled it out of a sealed pack myself and it comes back trimmed. I should be getting it back in the mail any day and i will scan it and have you pro's tell me what happened.

  • That sucks! I guess from now on we'll have to submit a video of the card being pulled from a fresh pack and inserted into the packaging to be sent to the grading company. image

Measure it up to other cards from the same set. If it lines up fine with other cards from the set I would send it in again.

  • In fact, you might want to send it in with some of the other '86 Fleer (assuming you submitted it by itself this time)! image

It's not unheard of for PSA to be overly cautious with the Evid. Trim. label. I had the same thing happen to me with an '85 Topps football card. All the cards on my submission were from the same box, opened by me. All the other cards were graded 9's, except one that was rejected as Evid. Trim. I resubmitted with my next order and it came back a 9, as it should have the first time.
  • when i get it back i will compare it with the others and send it back if it looks good. I thought for sure it was going to come back at least a 9 and when i opened the email i thought it was a joke.

The evidence of trimming issue has bit me twice when sending in BVG cards for crossovers. I sent in a 1972 Topps BVG 9 and 1968 OPC BVG 9 purchased on Ebay and both came back not graded evidence of trimming. Has anyone else had trouble with BVG crossovers?

I did send it in alone, if it lines up i will def send it in with others.

mcholke - I had a 67 Topps Don Sutton that was a BVG 7.5 I believe. I sent it to SGC and it came back as "evid trim". I dont put very much faith in BVG.

It's perhaps they are overly cautious of cards that are widely known to be copied/altered/forged.

Send it in with others so they can measure them, and see if you get the same results.
  • Ill let you guys know the results when i get it back in a couple weeks... This 4-5 ship time will from California to Boston adds a week to my wait. ..

    If the grade don't fit...resubmit!

  • Quizically, "dabighurt" is no where to be found in this thread... assuming the card is unaltered pack-fresh/measures up, a resubmission is mandatory here. PSA IS a little over-cautious when it comes to heavily counterfeited or altered cards like the '86 Fleer Jordan... I guess that's why they are the industry standard.

Yeah. I know the feeling. A real "WTF"? I sent two 1968 Topps hockey cards (Orr and Parent) to BGS which I helped pull from packs over 20 years ago with this one dealer that got a supply of them. Both cards came back with "Evid of shaved Edge" on them. What the hell? I knew they came directly from packs. In fact, the '68 Howe that went in with the same submission batch graded fine.

I think this is more SGC being over cautious than BVG being careless.

Has it occurred to the PSA bashers here that it's quite possible that the Jordan RC is indeed trimmed? Certainly won't be the first time someone opened a waxpack and inserted cards. I just find it very interesting that everyone is so quick to jump on PSA for not grading the card due to evidence of trimming when you haven't even inspected the card first hand. image

    So dabighurt,

You're assertion is that no grader at PSA has ever made a mistake in their grading? As far as I know, there isn't one person on this board that agrees with anything you have to say. Why do you continue to waste yours' and everybody's time saying the same redundant PSA praising crap over and over again? Does it occur to you that we are on the PSA forum because we all at one time have bought PSA cards and/or had them graded, therefore, overall, we like the service PSA offers?

When you go to your favorite restaurant, did you like the meal and service every single time you've gone there? When someone tells you their meat was overcooked, do you say "Well, the kitchen guys are the experts, so they know what Medium rare is supposed to look like"?

Jesus I can't believe I just wasted 45 seconds writing this.

Certainly not all bashing. Or do you read only what you want to hear. I would rather know there is some caution so there isn't fake cards out there bringing down the price, CHILL OUT

    Joe,
If you could give me an up close scan of the front and back, I'd be happy to make a reasonable offer on the card raw. Also, can you tell me who else came in the same pack?

The moral of the story is to avoid BVG and packs altogether. Just buy them already graded by PSA! image

  • Of course re-submit. Didn't want you to be the last one to reply. The little boo boo says another satisfied customer. Is that all that he says.

  • That's right!!!!Submit it to Beckett.Anything I pull from a pack and want to be graded right away goes to Beckett.
    Just my 2 cents!!!!
  • DaBigHurt, your theory makes no sense. A pack resealer is going to put all commons in the pack, not a trimmed Jordan RC.

  • just got the card back from PSA i don't have any other 86-87 fleer with me here are my office so i don't have any of them to compare it to, but i got a couple other card here. i am comparing it to a couple 92-93 fleer ultra shaq's i got here and they match up almost dead on. I am going to bring it down to a local well known card shop and see what they say.
