pennies, are they worth the trouble?

we,ve about 200 lbs. of pennies in crocks which came from my wife and i getting them in change though the years, my question is, is it worth the time to check them... while i know that some pennies like other coins have value are the odds good to get a few good ones....

That depends on how many yrs you've been saving them. If you get lucky you might find a variety or something cool. You are gurarnteed to be cross-eyed. LOL

    Bill,

That would be a lot of Cherrypicking, but going through them would be the only way to see if you had something. However.... since all of the major keys are wheat backed (*correct me if I'm wrong about that) you could run them through Coinstar. Contact them to verify this, but they seem to reject wheat cents into the coin return. Then you could just pick through those.

*Off the top of my head, I think the 1970S small date would be an exception as a semi-key. As well as varieties like a 1995 DDO or the Wide AM '99 and '00.

Just an idea. You could also offer them up on BST as honestly unsearched (how rare is that?).

  • I think the simple answear is if you enjoy varieties and searching for
them the time spent should be pleasurable. If you wish to calculate
the time spent/bonus money it may not be that profitable.
Coppercoins has a variety search by date feature which will give you
a good idea of what is out there. It also has great photos and values.

You bet. You might find a 1955 DDO, or a 1972 DDO if they go back that far. But, one of the coolest modern lincolns is the 1995 DDO (Double Ear). I have one and it is way cool. All of these are MS's so you will not have to look for proofs. Good hunting.
