I need some infomation regarding mint tour PLEASE

gripgrip Posts: 9,962 ✭✭✭✭✭
Next June I will be in Colorado Springs at the ANA seminar and afterwards wanted to arrange a tour of the Denver Mint with a couple of friends. When I go to the Denver Mint web site they indicated that we need to get Congressional sponsorship for the tour. Does anyone know of the procedure I need to follow to get this sponsorship for the tour?

Thanks.
Al

Go to the Summer Seminar... then you can get the tour that way image

    midwest,

I doubt that's bad info... the Denver Mint isn't set up like Philly... it's not a museum. The tour is a floor tour, earplug required, up close and personal.

When I was in Denver last the mint tours were shut down because of 9/11.

Go to your congressman's web page and inquire there. They will know what needs to be done and how to go about doing it.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    Al,

If you're saying that you already registered for the Summer Seminar but didn't sign up for the Denver Mint tour at the same time, don't assume that means you can't sign up for it. Call Gail Baker or Barb Olsen at the ANA and see if they can work it out (assuming it's not full already).

Sounds like you have already gotten good info. I just finished signing up for a tour through my senator's office. He had a standardized form that we had to fill out. Had to mail the DOB's & SS#'s for every member of the party along with the request. I hate giving out that kind of info. image Especially to some mail opener at a congressional office. image

There was an article in last week's CoinWorld about the Mint considering dropping the congressional requirements but with security worries I doubt they will.

The Congressional approval thing is for real. I am a teacher and we had taken a field trip to Philadelphia last May. We obtained approval for our group (about 200) to tour the mint but had it yanked out from under us at the last minute.image

We had to submit the SS# of all the adults who would be touring for background checks but then were told we could not take the tour for unspecified security reasons.
