Why you should never purchase a newly built home . . .

why not in my rafters?

The printed edition of today's Detroit Free Press had color photographs. Unbelievable. Of course, they also showed a photo of the couple holding some of the cards fanned out like you would hold a hand in a poker game. Yikes.

There was a link yesterday to a *very* similar story where the find was some 1911 (?) hockey cards. Cool stuff...

    Amazing find!!!

Too bad they flipped the cards off the walls and then had the dog lick them! lol j/k But I seriously think they lost some serious $$$ if they were over handling them, since they aren't collectors and don't know how to handle such $$$ cards with some TLC
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Can you imagine 75 years from now when people will be finding coffee cans full of 1989 Donruss in their rafters?

In fact, this weekend I'm going to stash some 206's in my rafters and leave them there for future owners. Of course,
they'll be Topps 206's, but still.

I had heard about this a couple days ago. I'll be attending that auction tomorrow morning, I'll let you know what they really found. I know they ran it on the front page of the sports section, but I think there will be a good possibility of getting some real steals at an auction like this. I don't think it has been well publicized in the collecting community and it's very early in the morning on a Saturday. I also think they scared off a lot of people saying they expect the auction to fetch upwards of $50K. I'm sure I'll see a few people I know there, but if the price is right, I'll snap up a couple things. I've got an extra $10-15K sitting around that I would like to invest, so I should have a lot of leverage in the bidding also.

Plus, I don't think any of this stuff is graded, which should also help keep the prices reasonable. And, not many people are accustomed to paying buyers premium, which also may scare people off, and they published that in the article also. Not exactly the smartest way to advertise an auction in my opinion.

This auction has taken an interesting turn overnight...

Sotheby's says they don't have any affiliation

Very interesting. I'm going on Saturday morning. It'll be interesting to see who shows up and who is bidding. I'm already concerned about shills, this organization sounds like a bogus business. I'm guessing the guy running the auction is related in some way to the people. And the BS about them spending 18 months researching the value is garbage or else they surely would have had them graded. I have a hunch this auction may be a bunch of authentic PR - FR -G - VG T206 commons and then key cards are going to turn out to be fakes. I'll take a look. I know how to tell. And if I see fake Cobb's, there's going to be a big story tomorrow...

    Stay tuned

If they spent a year+ researching the cards, why did these people not get them graded?

Nice fine. Certainly better than finding a dead body buried in the wall, which is probably my luck.
