Bingo. Well, the pics must be okay if you can get the grade that quickly. I'll post some more soon.

If the pics were a bit clearer that would be nice.

Clearer...I couldn't agree more, but am not sure what part of my technique to change to make that happen....lemm post a few more...they all lack that "clear-ness." Hmmmmm.....

Finally, one Susie B with great toning, and a horrible knife wound to the face....Just cannot get the toning right on this one or its branch mint sister.

What camera are you using and how is your setup?

I really like the 85 by the way.
  • the susie is a MS63 i'd say but if the dig is deep the MS63 dig

    The 81s is 63PL
The 87 is in 62 holder
    The textile Reverse is a different coin...1 96 in a 64
the frankie is ungraded, but not all that nice...just like the original toning on it. I would agree with 64. The reverse is okay, but has a hit right on the bell lines...too bad. It was a just for fun purchase.

should have gone with my gut instinct.

    Eric,
Camera is a Nikon Coolpix 775, so a little bit older, and just 2 megapixel.
Setup is a copystand with two incandescent lights on the sides....
I am using macro setting, and taking the pictures with the camera very close to the coins...only a few inches from them...perhaps too close?
Also, I keep playing around with the lights...sometimes below the camera and sometimes above it...have also tried angling slightly for some of the toners.

One thing you might try Mark is to use the timed shutter release (self timer) and take your hands completely off the camera when the shot is taken. Even the slightest movement of the camera when the shutter is released will cause the blurry look when you are shooting that close.

alredy doing that with 3 sec delay, but maybe I should try the 10 sec, in case any resisudual movement....thanks for the input.

If you're already doing that, try backing the camera away from the coin just a bit. You may be too close to get a clean focus.

will do! thanks! BTW, those new lights of yours look great!

They work real well, and really do a good job on toned silver coins where you need a high angle of light.

You captured the colors and luster very well. Sharp focus. All in all I think you did a great job.

  • yes a purty good job!
