Whilst out perusing British coins on eBay I saw this one and just couldn't resist ...

I can't tell if that's "woodgrain" toning or the result of cleaning. Might be the former. Interesting.

I liked it ... found it while searching for some other British coins ... one of which is proving to be a real stinker. Trying to find a 2000 £2 silver proof, but so far the only ones I have seen are in the silver millenuim proof set ... an expensive way to get just one coin.

The farthing arrived in today's mail ... the photo was definitely run thru photoshop or equivalant before the auction was posted. The coin is darker than show in the auction ... tho' I am not complaining as it has quite a few shades of purple in it. I am going to have to look at it some more when I get some sleep as it almost looks like a planchet defect as all the lines are in the same direction on both sides while the detail appears good.

I sold that coin, and I can state that I never use any image altering software or programmes, all my photos are taken with a plain old 2 meg digi camera and a flash and a steady hand.

This coin did look lighter in the picture, but that was the result of the flash.. not "jiggery pokery"...
I hope you like the coin, it was an attractive marbling effect.
    Thanks... Sue

I like the coin ... guess you had to go with a brighter flash to bring out the details. Showed it to a local dealer and he liked the woodgrain toning.

Now if I can only find an uncirculated 1973 50 pence that will fit into the type set I am working on ...

I can vouch for Sue - I have purchased several coins from her on ebay and I have been happy and impressed with all of them!

  • I had the same problem with a copper I sold last week. The pics kept showing up much lighter than the coin to the point that it looked as though it had been cleaned. I even tried adjusting the color to darken it but didn't work.
