Was wondering what peoples opinion on this is? here's a example, would you purchase this if you considered it's eye appeal, price, and strike to be great, and it was a great looking coin for a set. Or would you just look for another one because of the carbon spots?
One more question is there anyway to remove the carbon spots without damaging the coin?

I would downgrade the coin market value by at least 10 points, eg 60 to 50.
Personally I like nice red-brown coppers. They won't trun brown on you in the holder like red ones can do, and theoretically any spots are already there. Most spots like these on coppers are from improper dipping or are the long-term sequelae of spit.

NO! NCS will give it that greasy messed with look. I would just put it in a nice Capitol holder and enjoy it as an original indian cent. Unfortunately this is about the only condition original indian cents are still found in. Most slabbed ones have been messed with one way or another. I would love to buy that coin if it is for sale. mike
