Can anyone suggest a good reference book on seated liberty coinage, such as the dimes and quarters? Thanks!

Gobrecht Journal past article compilations are a great source of knowledge!

I know there are books--the titles/authors escape me. In the last year, there have been two complete seated collections that have come to auction--The Jim Gray North Carolina Collection (B&M) and Richmond III (DLRC) and a third collection of a nearly complete run of seated dimes (ANR's Frog Run Farm Collection catalog). These catalogs should provide excellent references going forward.

How and where can you get the Gobrecht Journal?

I believe you need to join the Liberty Seated Collector's Society. You can also buy the compilation books of the Gobrecht Journal articles. Do a search of "Gobrecht Journal Collective"

Isn't there going to be a Seated Liberty Coinage book in the red book series at some point?

For excellent seated dime information, there are several options:

    1. Kam Ahwash's Encyclopedia - hard to find
    2. Brian Greer's Guide to Seated Dime - easier to find
    3. Gerry Fortin's Variety Web-Book - Available at www.seateddimevarieties.com

Also the Stack's Lovejoy collection catalogue is a great source of information. Auction was held 10-16-1990.

For the seated dime series, I been trying to increase visibility via my web-book. It is a membership based website, but currently I am provide free access for one month in the hope of increasing the number of seated dime coinage collectors.

In the early-to-mid 90s, David Lawrence published several coin books under the series title "The Complete Guide to. . ." In the Seated Liberty series, books were published on the half-dimes, dimes, quarters and halves. The first three are still readily available (check Brooklyn Gallery or Stanton Books), but the Wiley-Bugert book on halves seems to have sold out. As far as Seated dollars go, Weimar White wrote a brief book a while ago that is still available, but the best book is Volume I of Bowers' Silver Dollar Encyclopedia.

There's also the Liberty Seated Collectors Club, which publishes a quarterly print journal (The Gobrecht Journal) and has also just started an e-mail publication (The E-Gobrecht). There are also four collected volumes of The Gobrecht Journal (which may still be available from the LSCC), with a fifth one on the way. The LSCC does, I think, have a one-page web site, but I can send you their address if you want to join.
