Extremely suspicious looking Gretzky eBay auction

Gretz

There's no way this card got a straight 9, even with the more lenient standards that existed during PSA's infancy. Plus the upper left side of the holder looks like it's been tampered with. Stay away!
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

The holder looks tampered with and the PSA label has nothing at all on the back.

That's not a 9. Not even close and most definitely deserves a OC. Strange.. The seller had decent feedback.

I would think this is something PSA and/or eBay should be notified of. I don't know the proper channels to follow, but if someone does and has time that would be great.

In order to identify the earliest reviewed PSA cards, what do I look for? Do they all begin with 0's or are there are numbers they used?

I'm pretty sure they all start with zero.

Wow. That case is frosted like a Minnesota window pane in December. And whats up with the flip? Looks like blue construction paper on the back.

Do I dare say it? The "W" word? Is this an example?

I personally wouldn't buy any slab frosted like that. Common or Gretzky RC.

Dabighurt should be telling us how great this card is any minute now!

the sellers feedback is pretty solid. The card doesn't look that bad, maybe not a 9, I might say 8 or 7. But it's not a 5.
The flip is ancient, was this the 1st Wayne Gretzky RC ever graded????
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Notice that the sellers accepts paypal for every auction except this one.

    That speaks volumes.

I e-mailed the seller about 2-3 days ago to let him/her know that the holder had clearly been tampered with and that the card inside was not worthy of the grade on the label based on the centering. Obviously the card inside had been swapped out. I worded my e-mail very politely and explained that I did not believe the seller was aware of this fact based on the high feedback rating. I didn't say that the auction should be ended (I felt it was implied). I told the seller to check with the person who had the card previously or PSA to see if there was anything that could be done in terms of restitution. I also e-mailed PSA. Not sure if there is anything they can do about the auction, but I figured I'd at least alert them to it. So far, no response from either party image

I have also emailed the seller twice to ask about the condition of the holder. No response either time...

The Gretzky looks fine to me. The centering may not be perfect, but that falls within the parameters of a 9. image

I don't know about the tampered slab. I haven't seen any of those before. If such a problem is prevalent, I'm sure PSA will address it at the appropriate time. imageimageimageimage

Yeah this guy's definitely a scumbag. Knows exactly what he's doing. At least I know that anyone reading this thread will never bid on his items again.

That's a good idea. Of course it could always be a shill bid as it looks like there are a few already.

I e-mailed the current high bidder to fill him in.

Only psahockey: "Dabighurt should be telling us how great this card is any minute now!"

Dabighurt: "The Gretzky looks fine to me. The centering may not be perfect, but that falls within the parameters of a 9."

    MINT 9: Mint.

A PSA Mint 9 is a superb condition card that exhibits only one of the following minor flaws: a very slight wax stain on reverse, a minor printing imperfection or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 60/40 to 65/35 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse.

Dabighurt, Your comments once again insult the intelligence of all who read them.
