A question about the Dansco 7070 Type Set book

I have already put together a complete Dansco Type set book in high grade comparable to Baley's. Because I had so much fun on it, I hav ebeen thinking about starting another book, but only using the key or semi-key coins such as an 1877 IHC, 1856 flying eagle, 1901-S (not likely) or 1896-S Barber quarter, etc.

Has anyone ever put key dates together like this? I would not be going for high grade stuff here, but hopefully not only G either.

I have heard of two guys who did that ... man, did they spend a bunch on the coins, though image

One ended up selling his to one of my local coin dealers, and, with the proceeds, started several other collections.

I met one collector who is currently working on two of the 7070 sets ... one "holed", and one counterstamped coins.

Another, somewhat less expensive, way to do it is first year of issue for each type.

I did first year of issue on my 20th century type set in a Capital Plastics holder. All MS coins.

It would be MUCH less expensive. But I'm not sure it would be as much fun. The added value of a complete type set of key dates is enticing too.

I did mine as either first year of issue, OR key date. If neither seemed feasible, I went for LAST year of issue, especially if it made for a neat transition to the next type. 1883 shield nickel, 1883 Lib NO CENTS, 1883 Lib WITH CENTS, for example.
