SMR $8,500

SOLD: $10,000+

POP 1/10 PSA 8s, 2 PSA 9s, no 10s.

Now is it me, or does this seem like a borderline 8 due to the OC on the back? Insanely beautiful card no doubt, for some reason i'm a little surprised at the selling price considering the back. Maybe its just my wishful thinking...

    I think it's a solid 8.

    NM-MT 8: Near Mint-Mint.

A PSA NM-MT 8 is a super high-end card that appears Mint 9 at first glance, but upon closer inspection, the card can exhibit the following: a very slight wax stain on reverse, slightest fraying at one or two corners, a minor printing imperfection, and/or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 65/35 to 70/30 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse.

I've been watching this card for a while. On a regular basis, I'll
do my search of "psa*" and "bgs*" and then select highest prices
to see what is selling for big bucks in the graded card word. Most
of the time, its nothing big. However, every once in a while a card
will show up worth noting. I do think that this is a borderline PSA 8.
But then again, how often does a card like this come up for auction,
on ebay much less? Not too often, I'd imagine. That may justify the
    high bidding. Just my take.

  • I think this card proves that you don't need mastro to realize a good sales price. Plus ebay fees are not even close to the 15% auction houses charge, then the buyer gets hit with another 10-15%. All this gets factored into the bid, so ebay results are bound to be strong for the seller. there are plenty of huge buyers on ebay all the time, so it doesn't surprise me these cards come up for sale every now and then.

As for the centering, it may fall within guidelines for an 8, but the first thing I notice is how off it is. Even if it is 80/20. Personally I think PSA is too generous with the 90/10 on the rear for a 8, and the 60/40 for a 10 on the front. Either way, if the centering on the reverse was as strong as the front, i'm sure the price would have been another few grand more. Probably pushing the standard 150% of SMR for pre-war.

  • Now heres what I don't get, I know BMW is a big seller but If I or you sold that card would we get the 10K. I think not. The seller shouldn't matter in my mind, as long as they good + feedback.

  • The seller makes all the difference. How many times do you see something you'd like to bid one but don't because you aren't 100% sure about the validity of the card or the person selling it? You decide to walk away but somebody else always takes a chance and wins that 10k card for 3k. A few days later the seller is NARU and the winner becomes the loser. When an expensive card is offered by a reputable seller like BMW and you win it, the only thing you've got to worry about is the wife finding out about it.

I think BMW acquired this card from a very high end collector. The card is solid IMO.
  • I think it looks like a weak 8, and there appears to be something funky about that upper right corner. Can't place it, but it doesn't look right to me.

But does it really matter at this point? It's in a legitimate PSA 8 holder, and the supply of this card in PSA 8 and above will never meet the demand.

  • From what I heard that guy is not the most honest dealer and has been associated with doctoring up cards.

  • Coolidge,

The upper right corner looks a little funky because it has a very slight diamond cut. I have a couple 7s that have this cut a little worse than this one. I agree, it does mess with your eyes a bit, but is VERY common with this issue. Either way, we are all right it is a nice card for 100+ benjis!!!!!
