large cent variety question

Below is a large cent I recently purchased. I believe it is the "slanting 5" variety. Does anyone have a picture of an "upright 5" so I can compare pictures? Thanks in advance.

Also, I bought a Dansco album for my Large Cent collection. So far, I only have about 20 Large Cents. But the album lists them by variety. I have seen some labeling on 2x2's that state N-22 or N-5. What does the N stand for? I assume an author of a reference book. And if so, is this book available, or out of print.

What other books would you recommend for Large Cent varieties.

P.S. What does it grade?!?

Your coin IS a slanting 5. You will note that the upright on the 5 is sloped to the right. On the upright 5 the upright is straight up and down. Slanted and upright 5's do not relate to specific varieties, there can be more than one variety of each. The N that you asked about refers to Howard Rounds Newcomb who wrote what was the standard reference to the varieties of the midle and late date large cents published in 1944. Although they are still known by their N numbers, the Newcomb book is no longer the standard reference. (Basicly because it is very difficult to impossible to use.) The standard reference for the middle dates is now either The Cent Book by John Wright, or United States Large Cents 1816 - 1839 by William Noyes. Both books are excellent and easy to use. Personally I use the Wright book. For the late dates the standard reference is United States Large Cents 1840 to 1857 by Robert Grellman.
