81 donruss

I just ordered the last few unopened packs of 81 donruss baseball from bbc exchange, He didnt have as many as i wanted so he put 81 fleer in it to make up for the rest. What a great dude Steve is!
Is anyone else collecting 81 Donruss if you are let me know, When the box arrives I will keep you updated on the box break. May send in the best ones through the March special.
This has to be the "Land of Misfit Toys set" as production standards were less than good. Should be an interesting set to try in psa 9-10.

based on past experience with BBExchange, you will have a nice product.

    Thanks,

I have had trouble selling a couple PSA 10's recently from 81 Donruss. Raines and Ryan. Last week I had Raines at $69 (SMR $130) and Ryan at $199 (SMR $300 I think) on the Bay and neither sold. PSA 9's are not worth much and 8's and below are worthless... in my experience. I still have an unopened box at home from 1981.

Larry Allen - I think that your situation is a matter of SMR being worthless, as opposed to the PSA 10s you were trying to sell
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Be interested to hear the collation reports. It was always fun to pull 6 Bob Knepper's out of one pack. The 81 Donruss cards have to have the worse collation ever.

Pretty much just doing it as a cheap way to bust some packs.

i'd like to buy another wax box if i knew the gum wasn't fused to the cards. i opened the 2 wax boxes and sold a 400-500 card lot of the gum plastered cards last week on ebay for .99.

    Thanks,

Did you have it for sale with a BIN only? Or a high starting? I think that high starts keep competitive bidding from getting started.

I agree, I think the best way is to start low, that way everyone puts it on thier watch list for later.

Those were my starting prices. I thought they were fair as I sold a Raines 81 Donruss last year for $90 so I figured $69 was very fair. Had several watchers but no bidders. The Ryan had 8 watchers. So you guys would do a low starting price and then a reserve price?

The Ryan 10 would sell for around $80 or so, and the Raines closer to $50. If you start the bidding at half those numbers, that's where you should wind up (I sold similar cards last year for those prices).

Seeing your post made me dig out my '81 set. Don't know if any of you remember, but

Donruss had some type of deal, where they would send you a notebook for the set. I

can't remember if you sent in wrappers, money, or a combination of both. They also in-

cluded enough plastic sheets to put the set in. Still have them in this notebook I got

for them. That company has come a long way since that first issue. Craig

Do any of you guys have a spare 1981 Donruss #131-B (Pete Rose)?
It is the last card I need for that set.
Please send me a PM if so.
    Thanks,
    James

You sent me a PM, but you don't have your PM function turned on so I can't reply.

    I'll answer your question here:

The card I need (#131-B) is a variation of #131. The picture on the front should show him standing facing the camera, wearing a red warmup jacket and a bat resting on his shoulder. The variation occurs on the back of the card.
The last line of text (just above the stat box) says "For Early Pete Rose career highlights see card #371".
I have the variation that says "see card #251"--so I need the one that says "see card #371".
