Hearken unto Me, O Mighty CIVITAS and Those also Wise in the ways of the Ancients, for I need Thy He

I need some help filling in as many blanks as possible, and for some corrections in the case of any mistaken assumptions. I have a Sear catalog but it is so old the price label on it is marked in denarii ! Besides, I am a little green when it comes to using it, still. In some cases (the bronze, mostly) I bought the coins with a partial attribution from a certain Old Dead King. In other cases like the silver I was completely on my own. Sorry for the quick-n'-dirty scans. I brightened the pics of the bronze a little but didn't mess with the silver since the scans already made 'em look washed out. (The silver looks terrific- I got it, unattributed save for emperor, from a certain formerly Mushroomlike individual.)

Thanks. Those silvers actually look much better in person than they do in the washed-out scans.

Interesting thread-I'll look forward to results.

from a certain formerly Mushroomlike individual

    As a mushroom,
    he was always honorably decent.
    Now that he's "formerly",
    I hope he's not recently decent.image

    << <i>Denomination: bronze As
    Emperor: Claudius (41-54)
    Date Range: issued 42 AD
Grade: (?) (I said VG10, using the American numerical scale) About Fine with moderate reverse encrustation (VG) same difference I guess
    Mint: Rome
    Catalog Number: Sear-1862 (?)
    Obverse: bust of Claudius left
Reverse: Minerva advancing w/ spear and javelin
    Retail Price Range: (?) >>

The portrait is decent enough that you could legitimately ask $25.00-$35.00, but be prepared to take a bit less if necessary.

    << <i>Denomination: bronze As
    Emperor: Antoninus Pius (138-161)
    Date Range: 138-161
Grade: I said VG10 (?) Hard to tell from the scan but looks full Fine+ to me. Not the nicest surfaces though.
    Mint: ?
    Catalog Number: Sear-1294 (?)
Obverse: laureate head of Antoninus Pius right
Reverse: Fortuna left, holding rudder and (?) probably cornucopiae.
    Retail Price Range: (?) >>

Antonine bronze, even in nice shape, is very difficult to move nowadays. I'd probably throw that one in my $10.00 pick bin just to make it go away, but $20.00 is not out of line.

    << <i>Denomination: silver Antoninianus
    Emperor: Gordian III (238-244)
    Date Range: 238-244 First Issue: 238-239 A.D.
    Grade: I said EF45 (?) Near EF
Mint: (?) Rome Mint. Although the style seemed a bit funky to me at first, so I had to double check it and make sure it wasn't Antioch
Catalog Number: similar to Sear-2445(?) RIC IV 3
Obverse: Radiate, draped bust of Gordian III right
Reverse: Pax advancing left, with olive branch and scepter, inscription "PAX AVGVSTI".
    Retail Price Range: (?)$35.00-$45.00 >>

    << <i>Denomination: silver Antoninianus
    Emperor: Gordian III (238-244)
    Date Range: 238-244 242-244 A.D.
    Grade: I said EF45 (?) Good VF
    Mint: (?) Antioch Mint
Catalog Number: similar to Sear-2434(?) RIC IV 209 listed as Rare (generally pretty meaningless for a Gordian III Ant, but I do believe this one is scarce).
Obverse: Radiate, cuirassed bust of Gordian III right
Reverse: Fides standing left, holding two standards, inscription "FIDES MILITVM".
    Retail Price Range: (?) >>

Normally I'd say $25.00-$30.00, but because it's Antioch Mint and scarce, $50.00-$75.00 would probably work.

Oh, it's nothing against the coin. It would just be like pulling teeth to convince anyone to pay $20.00 for it, but I think someone would snap it up at $10.00 given the chance. People will buy anything if they think they're getting a bargain. image
