Help - Are these cards (Mantle, Mays, Clemente) real?

I've just gotten started into collecting vintage cards, and was looking into getting a vintage Clemente.

I saw a 1955 one at :

Clemente

Obviously, seeing a seller with a zero rating made me a little leery, and before I bid I always take a look at the bidders. The seller is also selling a 52 Mays and a 56 Mantle and a 09 Wagner.

I looked at the bidders and I see a hoss4321 having bid up some of these cards - and seeing that he had private feedback, I looked to see what he bid on in the past. It looks like he won a few bids for a 1955 1955 Clemente Reprint here

Link

and also won a 1952 Mays Reprint recently

Link

and also a 1909 Wagner reprint here :

Could it be that this seller monty7198 and bidder hoss4321 are the same and he is turning around and selling his reprints as real cards? Or am i just being paranoid?

Can you please give me some advice - are they taking the other bidders for a ride?

I'd avoid like the plague. Sold as is, knows little in general about baseball cards-yet puts high book value in title, happens to have some key rookies of Mantle, Mays and even the Honus card...sounds too fishy. Wouldn't you think the old man that he supposedly got the cards from would have some commons mixed in with these cards? How was the old man so lucky to get AND save the T206 Honus Wagner card from a set of like 500+ cards way back in 1909? (Did he throw away the Cobb, Matty, Young, etc cards?)

I loved that Iron Maiden video and song!!!!!!!!

Avoid that auction as previously stated, if it's too good to be true, well ya know.

It's actually run "to" the hills. Sorry, had to be done. LOL.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

  • Thanks for all the help guys.

I sent a mail to the seller monty7198 and asked for the return policy if the card is not authentic to monty7198 - and the return e-mail was from hoss4321@yahoo.com - that really indicates there is something shady going on here. It looks like the id monty7198 is selling and hoss4321 is bidding...should we notify eBay on this, or let the suckered buyers learn the hard way?

  • Looks like (on the Clemente auction) Reddevil8baseball is also one of his shill accounts, also. The high bidder hasn't won anything in the past three months over $7.00 and now he's going for the high end. Both of the user ID's are from the Ohio area as well.

Yes, I think you should notify ebay. The names on the emails seem like a dead giveaway. When you look at the 2 pictures of the Wagner card, it seems obvious that they are the same card. So, the seller knows it's a reprint but doesn't say anything about that. The bidding wouldn't go that high if the bidders knew that this is a reprint.

  • I'm not sure what category under ebay to report this as - there seem to be multiple offenses here :

Fraud? Seller shill bidding? General eBay shadiness?

  • Getting kicked off eBay is way to easy on this loser. He should be prosecuted. It would be nice if some law enforcement agency had the time and resources to set up a sting operation on these type of auctions.
