On average, how much of a discount

percentage wise, is grey sheet "Ask" to prices listed in Coin Worlds "Coin Values" supplement?

To make it simple, say you had a common or semi-key valued at $100.00 or $1,000.00 in Coin Values, what, on average, would grey sheet "Ask" be? Would it be 20%, 25% or more less than "Coin Values"?

Rule of thumb used to be 30%. A few years ago most dealers could sell you nice coins at 30% below Trends and still make a profit. Today, not sure though as retail seems to be getting closer to wholesale.

Not sure about a percentage, but not too sure about dealers being able to sell *nice* coins at 30% below trends reliably. Coins, yes, but nice ones? W/ online auctions & such, collectors can compete directly with dealers to some extent, especially for the desirable stuff.

  • Seems graysheet is far below coin values as far as the collector selling. I no longer use coin values to figure what I'll get if I sell but I know what to expect when I buy because the figures in coin values are right on the mark for dealer sell prices.
