What do you think of the toning on this 1991 SAE???

I bought it in a local club auction a while ago and put it away, forgetting about it till this years "Spring Cleaning" started a few weeks ago. It had been placed by the original owner in one of those velvet cases. The luster on these SAE's isn't powerful to begin with and this one seems to have sacrificed some of the obverse luster for color while the reverse still retains most of what it originally had. In hand, the color bands are symmetrical on both sides and moreso on the reverse while the color shift is subtle, especially on the obverse where the blues seem to have settled into the detail very nicely to show pretty highlights around Liberty. The reverse is mainly rim toned in deep blue with a gold/red color throughout. All this is apparently the result of the velvet coming into contact with the obverse and the rim for many years while the reverse sat on the uncovered bottom of the case. The rims and surfaces are free of any marks/contacts and my grade estimate is MS65 due to the reduced luster.

Any comments?? Thanks.

    The colors are nice enough.

Not as vivid as some that I have seen, but still a nice coin.

putting together a MS 60 and up Morgan set....60% complete...otlher 40% probably take the rest of the decade!
  • Really like the obv. very light tone colors( for some reason Sorbet comes to mind:2drinkimage.very attractive, now the obverse seems to mimick my 87 I have posted. seems to be red/gold also. But my obv. really took a liking to the deep purple which is what really caught my eye at the shop. Actually there was another one that was starting to rim tone with a real funny sea blue..but just was not attractive to warrant buying it.image...I really think SAE our attractive with toning, a member of our coin club has 2 of the nicest ones ive seen. He picked them up at a pawn shop and they are both a magenta red color, think he said they had been sitting in the shop a couple of years the owner said in a well lit (sunlight) display case.
