OK.. Who said NGC is easier on grading Ikes than PCGS?

I have three 1976-P Type 1 PCGS MS65 clad Ikes that I just knew for sure were MS66 coins. I sent them back to PCGS for regrade and all three came back still MS65. I had heard that NGC was easier on grading clad Ikes so I cracked out these coins and sent them to NGC. Well, guess what... I got back one MS65 and two MS64 grades!!!!!!! I am not too thrilled about the downgrades, but I realize that cracking out a slabbed coin in the hopes of an upgrade is just a crap shoot. I will probably try it again sometime in a case where I really believe a coin deserves a higher grade.

To get even one Ike back as 65 was pretty impressive.

I have cracked out 2 MS66 NGC IKE's (a 1971 and a 1972 T3) and they both came back MS64 from PCGS. I also cracked a 1972 T2 MS65 NGC IKE. It came back MS63 from PCGS.

VERY EXPENSIVE LESSONS!!

I do not have any explanations but I will say this, the NGC Ike's do not sell for nearly the same amount as the same grade PCGS coin so even a even cross is a loss.

Probably more like stupidity. I should have sent the coins in for crossover, but I was just so sure they would grade MS66 I didn't even think about how much less the coins would be worth if they downgraded.

I said that. Try to crack out the two 76-P type one NGC MS64 and submit them to PCGS. Very likely, they will come back MS64 or MS63 these days.

Don't you know PCGS tightened Ike dollar grading BIG TIME in the last couples of months?

Couple of months? I think it started a couple of years ago!
(But aren't they supposed to remain consistant?)

I sent them in as routine Modern coins.

Luckily I paid WAY less then the PCGS going price for all of these coins.
