Found, 1916-D merc...(Pics added)

I bought a bunch of silver coins (About11 Barber, 400 Merc and 900 Roosie dimes, 4 Barber and 550 Washington Quarters, 2 Barber, 150 WL, and 85 Franklin Halves, about 100 Peace and 60 Morgan Dollars) yesterday.

Went through the Mercs and Morgans this morning. Of the 3 - 1916 Mercs one of them is a "D" (Looks to grade G4 or slightly better). Of the Morgans, two of them are EF 1890-CC's, And just starting on the rolls of Roosies I'm already pulling a pile of 1948 P-D-S, 1949 D, and 1950 D's in Unc.

    Great find!!

I think it would grade AG03 at PCGS.
    When in doubt, don't.

Are those 1900 Morgans O/CC ? Check for VAM-7 and VAM-9 both command high premiums.
  • holy crap! well done. I'd say the merc is a solid AG3 (rims worn half way in letters)

nice, that is a major chuck of silver.
Collection under construction: VG Barber Quarters & Halves
  • "nice, that is a major chuck of silver."

This is actually 1/4th of what the guy has, I have dibs on the rest. His "accumulation" is actually an inheritance that came from his grandfather and father that owned a bakery from the mid/late 1800's to the 1950's. The guy has just stored this accumulation under his bed since inheriting it from his father.

Okay, it's agreed, AG03 it is.

  • I'm not an expert on these but I don't like the D on that coin. Looks a little too large, too high, and the shape is odd. Relief also looks higher than the surrounding design. Now I don't like the services but on these where counterfeits a SO common even I recommend hese should be authenticated.

It goes down from AG-3 to FR-2 and PO-1 to answer your question 100proof.

I don't know about the mintmark, but I don't like it as AG3. FR2... Still, a darned nice find in a bag of junk silver. No gripe!

When I first looked at it ,the D did look a little to large, but than figured
It's most likely from wear, and spreading it out..As Conder said ,I would get it authenticated. first.

the d looks funky. should it have not worn the same as say the star in the same position from the edge as that d?
the wear pattern doesnt seem to jive with the rest of the coin but, i dont know....read my sig line for my disclaimer.'
