I'M GETTING SO SICK AND TIRED OF THIS DSL AND 4 SHARP CORNERS BUSINESS. IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S JUST ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER.

These 2 outfits provide many high quality cards for PSA collectors of all stripes. This drives collecting interest in PSA and the registry.

I'm not defending DSL or 4SC (you should see some of my posts regarding them), but here's a scenario.

I get a card graded, and by jingo it comes back PSA 10! So I look in the pop report and it says only 1 card is graded that high. Hey, I have a 1/1, cool. Only I don't, because my just-graded card hasn't made it into he pop report yet. So for a time (a few days, a few weeks?) I might honestly think I have a 1/1 and even advertise it for sale as such. But it's really 1/2, or maybe even 1/26 because DSL just got back two dozen PSA 10's of this card and they aren't in the pop report either.

Now, I'm sure the folks at DSL and 4SC know about this lag and take advantage of it in their auctions. But it's possible that when they got this card back from PSA and made notes for the auction, the pop report DID actually say that only 1 was graded PSA 10.

A lof of my irritation with those dealers has to do with them flooding the hobby with PSA 10's. But that really is about the warehouses of unopened material from the 1980s and '90s rather than who is submitting it to PSA by the truckload. If not these and the other mega-submitters, someone else would.

    carew4me - I think what mudflap02 is referring to
is that DSL many times quotes a pop report that hasn't been updated
to include the card they have for sale that they just got back from PSA.
    So their 1 of 1 is really a 1 of 2, or their 1 of 4 is really a 1 of 5.

With the volume they do it would be tough to be accurate on every card,
but when they check the pop report and see that they have a 1 of 0,
it must give them a clue that the pop report isn't updated daily.

They're still the seller I spend the most money with.
I just make sure to double check their pop info before I bid.

  • Jrdolan has a good point about the time lag.I recently listed a few low pops and they have not shown up in the pop report yet.I chose to add mine to try and represent the actual number and not take advantage of the time lag.The pop report is just a tool and really isnt that accurate anyways. One needs to remember....if a card is a 1/2 and nobody cares or collects it (then big deal) but you can have a 1/15 and 12 of those cards are locked away in collector sets and the other 3 really dont exist because they were crack outs for resubmission. Now one comes up for sale and is aggressively collected.NOW that is a low pop.Anyone confused yet? Just rambling.
    DSL + 4SC+ PSA= PRINTING MONEY BABY
  • I also buy from DSL and have noted on several occasion that they have listed something 1/1 when I already have one of what they have listed and have had it for months or maybe years. I haven't inquired as to why they've listed it as such, maybe different people do their listings and all are not up on the population report lag. I understand why mudflap is upset, he has a right to be. Thanks mudflap for pointing this out.

LAG IN UPDATING THE POP REPORTS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THE CARD I HAVE HAS BEEN A POP 2 FOR 6 MONTHS AT LEAST. NOTICE THE FLIP ON THE FIRST CARD I POSTED (MINE), AND THE ONE FROM THE AUCTION:

IT'S THE SAME CARD, I GUARANTEE YOU. THEY ARE LABELED AS 2 DIFFERENT CARDS, ONE NUMBERED AND ONE NOT.
  • SO WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? THIS IS PSA'S FAULT FOR NOT TRACKING THE CARD CORRECTLY?

WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE TWO SELLERS YOU NAMED?

    I agree.

This seems to be a clerical error - SLU card mistake - why is this DSL BS?

Exactly. The problem probably isn't DSL's lack of forthrightness concerning the card's population, but PSA's lack of consistency and accuracy when it comes to labeling cards. I realize that it isn't easy in this era of hundreds of sets and parallels each year, but it's something that could undoubtedly be improved. Because PSA has this card listed at least two different ways in the database, the pop report is screwed up.

I'd assume this probably isn't the first time this has happened with this seller.

I am usually very leery of any seller who proclaims how low of a pop the card is because (a) I don't need to know how rare it is to want it and (b) the pop report isn't accurate.

Isn't "A Fart In The Wind" a classic Elton John song? image Or is it "A Fart Blew Out My Candle In The Wind."

Why stop there? Insult his (2005 Topps) Heritage too! image Just had to work the name of this month's most popular product into this thread.

I suggest "your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries." Not directed at you Jeff, just poking fun at the gusty methane inundated scatalogical sarcasm used earlier.

As for the topic, it would be nice to have just one SLU for each card. Were they all printed with the number 30?

THE MAIN THING THAT I'M TRYING TO IMPLY IS THAT THERE ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE SOME SORT OF THING OR ANOTHER HAPPENING WITH THESE BIG SUBMITTERS, WHETHER IT BE ACCUSATIONS OF FAVORITISM, CLERICAL ERRORS ON PSA'S PART, OR WHATEVER. MAYBE IT JUST COMES WITH THE TERRITORY WHEN YOU SUBMIT THOUSANDS OF CARDS A MONTH. MAINLY I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE TO SHOUT A LOT. AND CAREW, I DONT GET MAD AT POT SHOTS TAKEN ON AN INTERNET MASSAGE BOARD, SO SAY WHATEVER YOU WANT, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HURT MY FEELINGS. MY SKIN IS A LITTLE THICKER THAN THAT, SO BLOW ME.

Before I go and look through them, is it possible that Talking Baseball from SLU has 2 types? that is, a numbered version and an un-numbered one?

Well, as long as there's steam being "blown" - for all those who know the ebayer selling the infamous bling bling sling - here's another creative ebayer selling his wares!

Let's see DSL top this one - A pair of 1/1's! Unfortunately, there will have to be a 'qualifier' on them - definitely "altered"

Clerical errors on PSA's part happen to high-volume submitters as much as they hapen to fart-in-the-wind collectors like myself. My last invoice was a measly dozen cards are so, two of which I had to return because of data entry problems and another two that I probably could have.

Sorry, mudflap, but this isn't DSL B.S. I'm not saying that there is no B.S. - or at least perceived B.S. - associated with these types of submitters, but this isn't an example of it.

  • If I remember right the photo cards actually came with the Baseball Stadium that was the centerpiece for the game.(God I loved that game) The drawnd cards which I woulod belive to be harder to find were from the expansion cartridges you could buy for the game.

I would be happy if PSA would try some sort of clear sleeve(like SGC but clear) that would do away with that mylar sleeve!how much would it cost to get a perfect fit sleave cut to various dimensions? they could have sizes for the kelloggs, topps stickers,80's mini's and so on! there is probably 20 diffrent sizes they would need to get! i don't care how bad i need a card for my registry set i will not submit or buy a card like that! it looks better in a CS1!

Now that certainly would be a fart in the wind.

I can see a string up the back, but only a string in front? What is the sense other than discomfort? Is there a beachwear law that says you have to make at least some effort to clothe yourself? I know in our neck of FL the law is complex and this would not pass.
