Guess I'll have to fess up to this insane obsession I have. I have tubes that I put the nicer ones in, when I get fifty I wrap them and keep in a tackle box. I have milk jugs sitting around and toss the junk copper in them.
I've been working on a circ set of cents from 1909-present for the last few years. Its just something I do in my spare time. I go through a handful of penny rolls from the bank each week and fill what holes I can. I am now down to about 5 or 6 holes in the set and all are key dates. I am still constantly upgrading the coins with each better one I come across.

I collect bits and pieces of everything or should I say I ACCUMULATE! I also dabble with the darkside
Ive recently gotten more into currency, especially modern star notes
Jonesy, I have a few gallon-size baggies full of pennies which I've had for a long time but have yet to really go through. What are you lacking for your set to be complete? Chances are I dont have it, but I'll look thru them....I just might
have a complete Capital Board set 09 - present including proofs from 36- present plus all major varieties except the 55 DDO and a slab set registered under Gonfunkos’ basic circ set # 28 with 20 coins at PCGS and the remaining 10 waiting to go to PCGS, plus I am #40 in the basic set of 59-present circ set. Does this count????

I was doing this through the mid-80s. By then I had several jugs full of pennies and stopped just because I didn't have the space to keep collecting them.
I have a blue whitman folder of Lincoln memorials(not counting zinc) that I fill from circulation finds. Trying to find one of each date that comes in change. I still have several left to find, and its been a few years now. For a coin to qualify, it must be AU min, with no problems. Beleive it or not, I actually located a 70-s small date in a take a penny dish a few years ago?
It sounds kind of quirky and odd, and no value to the set, but something to do, and I wanted to see how long it would actually take to find them, just in passing change, as I dont go to the bank to buy rolls to search for them.

but it is a really harsh mistress always requiring additions of rarer and rarer die varieties and errant die marriages

What about the bronze cents?

Yeah bronze and steel too. I separate all copper pennies out of my change and keep them.
