Customer service is job #2 here

While attending a small coin show in San Antonio today, I came across a dealer table with all kinds of coins scattered haphazardly within the glass case. Some were slabbed, some were raw, but most were nice (1893-O dollar in F, 1860-O half in AU-55, several decent Bust halves and so on). I asked the three folks behind the case if I could look at some of the coins, especially the halves. After some scowling and grunting, one of the goons finally lifted up the case and tossed them on the case surface. While I was looking through the coins, one of the other dealers thought it would be a good idea to start straightening out the display. The other dealer (goon #3) then snapped at him and told hime "F*** it! Don't straighten anything. Waste of time, we're only here a few hours!. Let the f***ers dig through them." Needless to say, I put the coins down and handed them back, then left in disgust. They lost a possible sale on at least 3 coins, including the 1893-O dollar.
I wondered afterword, should I have turned them in? Or should I have warned other potental customers about those goons? Either way, the moral of this story is treat your customers AND potential customers with some decency and respect. I've seen this at Long Beach as well as at the smaller shows. OK, end of rant, time for a drink!

Thankfully, I've really only met one guy like that... and I always tell my friends to avoid the ass-hole... and all the dealers around already know about him... like, there was a show today, and me and several forum members met for breakfast at Dennys... and of course we were sharing some coins, and a guy walks over... well, he was a dealer that was set-up at the show, and he told us his table had a big sign reading "Buy All Coins" and I said, heh, kinda like that ass-hole that has the same sign... and he said, "Oh, you mean Roy......"

<< <i>Sounds like a dealer I could communicate well with. Actually the old grumps are my favorite. >>

<< <i>Hey, even us grumpy old men got feelings. >>
I don't mind grumpy so much, I've been accused of that myself.
It's the outright hostile that I don't care for.
